Syracuse falls to Penn State, 28-7

A week after his college football debut, Greg Paulus didn’t fare much better in a 28-7 loss to the Penn State Nittany Lions.

It was the quarterback’s first road contest, and the crowd was certainly a bit more overwhelming than those in the Carrier Dome.

It also didn’t help that Penn State’s defense was a significant step up from last week’s matchup against Minnesota.

Nonetheless, Syracuse wasn’t embarassed by any means against a team that could wind up playing in a BCS bowl game.

Syracuse falls to Minnesota, 20-17

The Syracuse Orange’s much anticipated season opener ended in disappointment as they fell in overtime to the visiting Minnesota Golden Gophers, 23-20.

It was the college football debut for Greg Paulus, the former Duke basketball star, and the point guard turned quarterback was solid in his first game.

Paulus threw for 167 yards and one touchdown as he single-handedly tries to rebuild the Syracuse football program and put the Orange back on the national scene.

Paulus made one major mistake in the game, but it proved to be very costly. Instead of throwing the ball away in overtime and settling for a field goal, the quarterback tossed an interception, making Minnesota’s game-winning kick a mere formality.
